I saw this scene in the rear view mirror as I was driving. After a bit of internal debate, I had to turn around and capture the scene. Fall is my favorite time of year.
Considering that the project I've been working on for over seven months now will make it's appearance about a month from now, I'm not willing to take on the meme. I'm concentrating on wrapping up the things I've promised and the things I'd like to make for the baby instead.

However, I am having a lot of fun thinking about what the participants on my friends list might make!
"Oooooh, something out of yarn I'll bet!"
"She'd come up with the cutest little Amigurumi!"
"Hmmm, he could do a cool cartoon version of a person!"
"Now I know he does textile stuff, but I can't remember what exactly."
"Oh, gosh, she could do just about anything!"

Ah well, I'd better concentrate on quilts, diapers, baby hats, diaper covers, baby shoes, diaper linings, modifying onesies into baby T-shirts. . . . ack, I'm running out of time!

Pie for breakfast!

My attempt at making myself an allergen free pumpkin pie was quite successful. The recipe I followed was http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2008/10/vegan-pumpkin-pie-worthy-of.html though I did substitute the hemp milk with goat milk since I had a half gallon in the fridge! It passed the husband test and everyone at Thanksgiving Dinner finished their slice. Dad said he'd have never known there was buckwheat in it if I hadn't told him! I have to say it's pretty good for breakfast too! I'd actually made two pies. One on Wednesday to make sure it was worthy of actually bringing to Thanksgiving Dinner. So between what's leftover of the first pie and the Thanksgiving pie I still have a full pie left! (Well, minus this mornings breakfast!)

I think the sweet potato fries may be the thing that is actually closest. They do have a gluten free skinny pancake but it has egg and possibly milk. I opted for the vegan crepe since that at least is free of egg and part of the flour is chickpea so it would at least have less gluten then a regular crepe anyway.

I am however amused at the irony of having ordered honey on my vegan crepe! *grins*

I'm terribly amused to see that on April 14th 2006, I posted about how my parents were using two televisions. One with sound and one with a picture. I mentioned that Justin might have gotten my dad to settle on a TV. Well, as of today, March 17, 2008, my father still hasn't bought a new TV. As a matter a fact, my parents are still using a TV they borrowed from Justin nearly 2 years ago! Good thing I married him!

Dad did look at TVs when we went to Costco today.

Merchanting in the SCA and online

So, I may be trying my hand at being a merchant in the SCA and online. It neatly solves a number of problems both long and short term. It'll be interesting to see how it goes, but I wanted to run it past my friends list since some of you have definite experience and knowledge that I lack.

Some of the questions that come to mind include:
How long can I get away with not taking credit cards at events?
State Tax? I've actually gotten the paperwork needed to deal with State Tax before, but I never actually ended up having to do anything with it! I'd have to re-apply.

Logistics of vehicles and which events to attend I can figure out, but I'm wondering how many pitfalls are out there that I'm not even aware of!

If so, what?

I've got a box of pins that I bought in France that I love. They have small white glass heads. I think these pins a fairly common in Europe because my great aunt gave me a few pins just like them but with more colors. I'll be buying more when I go in June!

2. How many pincushions do you own? Show us a picture of your favorite one if you want.

I don't really use pin cushions but I've got two. The one pictured is my favorite of the two. It doesn't hold any of my European pins though.

3.
Birka Weekend

I went down to Birka Friday night. I think this was the first time in YEARS that I hadn't day tripped this event. I even daytripped from Philadelphia once. But it was sooooo much more relaxing to just be there already! I hadn't actually gotten around to booking myself a room when I got a call that a couple of local college kids needed a ride home and some transportation the day of the event. Their ride had fallen through and they had plenty of room in their hotel room for me. That all worked out great.

The event was great and I loved seeing all those people I haven't been seeing much of lately.

After the event, we went out to dinner and stopped at a grocery store for some bottled water and dessert. My car was making a funny noise around the rear passenger side tire. I had just had some work done on the exhaust so I thought something might not have been tightened up all that well. We got back safely to the hotel and I forgot all about it until the next day when we were trying to make our way back to Vermont. I stopped at a handy gas station and went around to that side of the car and tried to see if anything was dragging. Note: I looked right past the tire to do so.

Naturally, I couldn't see anything and with all the snow/slush I didn't try to be more thorough. I called AAA and asked if they could refer me to a place that would be able to look at my car and let me know if it was safe to drive back to Vermont. I didn't think I needed a tow. One place was going to try to fit us in between their appointments so off we went. We get there and explain the problem and hang out while they look at the car.

Didn't I feel like an idiot when the guy came in to inform me that I had a flat tire that looked like it had been driven on for a while. *sigh* Another flat tire, I've lost count at this point! Turns out it looks like my tire got slashed! Why anyone would slash one tire of a car that's from out of town, I don't know, but the guys at the shop were convinced it was a knife. Does this complete a set of "Ways to Have Flat Tires" or what?

Fish Tank

About a month ago, I set up a 6 gallon fish tank I'd had at my condo. I put in some new gravel, a decoration I'd had before and a plant we bought at PetSmart. I've been too busy and stressed with work to do anything else with it. It's not ready for fish, it's just been running for a while with no special treatment. I even have the light going on and off automatically.

This morning I discovered 7 tiny little snails hanging around on the front. I'm not sure what they are surviving on considering I'm not feeding them anything! The plant is the most likely culprit for having introduced them though the gravel may be a possibility too.

I may soon dive into sewing leather!

Okay you pervs, what I'm going to say next won't help get your minds out of the gutter either. *sigh*

I'm going to make a new stick shift boot cover for the Boxster. Now I need to look into sources for the right leather.
